Ann Waymouth (nee Blackman) Born at Chobham, Surrey 1821 Died at Auckland, New Zealand 1906 Ann was a daughter of James and Ann Blackman of Chobham, Surrey. Her parents had five children, but only Ann and two sons survived childhood. Ann was brought up on her parent's farm, "Fowlers Wells" close to Chobham. Her brother, John Blackman, in his book "The Story of my Life" describes life on the farm. The census shows that a 20 year old chemist, John Waymouth, was living in Chobham in 1841. Three years later Ann married John at St Saviours, Southwark (now Southwark Cathedral). Their first child, John, was born in 1845, at the Chobham farm and the next seven children where born in various inner London suburbs. In 1859, Ann and John and their six surviving children emigrated to New Zealand and settled in Auckland. Two more sons were born in Auckland. Before her death in 1906, Ann had the sorrow of loosing five of her sons, three through illness and two in accidents. |
