Jane was one of at least five children of William Miller and Margaret (nee Henderson) who were married at Peterhead, Scotland on 6 March 1824.   Jane was baptised on 5 July 1835 at Pittenweem, Fife, Scotland.

Jane married Silas Waymouth at the Scotch Church, Malta on 16 January 1862.   Their three sons were born at Plymouth, Arthur in 1863, Ernest in 1869 and Charles in 1871.   By 1881 the family had moved to Kidbrook Park Road, Blackheath, Kent.
