This photo was probably taken at the time of the marriage of Margaret and John Waymouth.
Margaret was the fifth daughter of Andrew Rooney and Frances (nee Thompson).   Her parents had arrived in New Zealand from Saintfield County Down, Ireland in 1841.   Margaret was born in Auckland just eight years after its founding.   Her father had a bootmakers shop in Queen Street at the time.   In 1855 the Rooney family moved to Epsom, then a farming area, 6km from the port area.
Margaret married John Waymouth, a shipbuilder, at St Pauls Church, Auckland on 26 September 1868.   They lived at Union Street, Freemans Bay and their six children were born between 1869 and 1882.   Margaret died at Union Street at the age of 36 years and is buried at St Andrews Church, Epsom, alongside her father who died in 1880.   Margaret's children were then aged between 3 and 16 years.
