There were a number of ALLATT (or ALLOTT) families living in the Dewsbury, Batley, Heckmondwike and Liversedge area from the 1700s. This website covers the descendants of John ALLATT and Susanna SMITH who married at Birstall in 1813. The author's ancestors include Susanna SMITH's parents and I do not have ALLATT ancestors. The descendants of John and Susanna are my cousins. I have used the name ALLATT but the children of John and Susanna were baptised with the name ALLOTT. They used the less common spelling in later years. John was born in Sheffield but his parents, James ALLATT and Milcah BLAYMIRE, were married at Birstall. John's siblings were born in Heckmondwike and were baptised at Birstall. John and Susanna had six children: Frederick, born in 1813, married Ann Brook in 1835. They had 6 children. James, born 1816, married Harriet Firth in 1844 (2 children) and Fanny Blackburn in 1859 (two sons) Timothy, born 1817, married Ann Wilkinson in 1840. They had 3 children. Joshua, born 1820, married Ann Naylor in 1844. They had 5 children, David, born 1822, married Mary Wilson in 1843. They had 7 children. Rebecca, born 1824, married John Senior Ineson in 1845. They had 10 children. Timothy and Rebecca were named after John's grandparent's, Timothy ALLOTT and Rebecca ARMITAGE. See the family tree pages that are linked to this site. |
