Thomas Blackman was born near Reading, Berkshire, England about 1730.   He married firstly Mary Deed.   They lived at the old Barley Mow tavern at Knaphill in the parish of Horsell, Surrey.   The house still exists (see photo).   Thomas and Mary had six children:

Mary Blackman, born 1753, married John Deadman.
Hannah Blackman, born 1756, married George Falkner and had at least seven children.
Thomas Blackman, born 1758.
Marsey Blackman, born 1762, died 1771, aged 8 years.
James Blackman, born 1764, died 1843, married Ann Stovell (see below)
George Blackman, born 1768.

James (1764-1843) and Ann (1792-1833) Blackman lived at Fowlers Wells in the village of Chobham, Surrey. (See photos)   They were farmers.   Their five children were:

James Blackman, born 1817, died 1820 aged three years.
John Blackman, born 1819, emigrated to New Zealand in 1870 and died in 1893 (see below).
Ann Blackman, born 1821, married John Waymouth and emigrated to New Zealand in 1858. (see below).
William Blackman, born 1824, married Sarah Styles and died 1891.
Mary Blackman, born 1825 and died aged two months.

John Blackman (1819-1893) wrote a book on his life named "The Story of my Life."   It was published by Ray Turner in 1984.   During his time in England, John published some of his poetry in books "Flowers and Fancies" and "Home Scenes and Heart Memories."   In New Zealand he married a widow, Elizabeth Pulman (nee Chadd) in 1875.   She continued to operate her late husband's photographic business under the name Pulman Photographers at Shortland Street, Auckland.   John and Elizabeth had one child, Percy James Blackman, born 1878.   Percy became a theatre manager and radio broadcaster in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Ann Blackman (1821-1906) and her husband John Waymouth lived in the East End of London before emigrating.   The first son, John Waymouth (1845-1914) was born at his grandparent's home in Chobham.   The next seven children where born in London and two died there while young.   The family emigrated to New Zealand on the "William Watson" arriving in Auckland in 1859.   Two sons were born in Auckland.   See the Waymouth family.

William Blackman (1824-1891) and his wife Sarah had two children.
The eldest child, William Robert Blackman (1849-1933) married Elizabeth Mary Dobinson and they had five children.   The parents and three surviving children emigrated to USA in 1882 and the youngest child was born in California.
Sarah Ann Blackman (1852-1930), daughter of William and Sarah, stayed in England and did not marry.
